Vaginal Absorption of Penicillin

Abstract
Inbred mice of the Strong A and C3H strains and hybrid mice (AC3AC5) were used. Castration and grafting were done when the mice were 1-3 mos. old, except in a group with intratesticular transplants in which a few mice were operated upon at 130 days of age. The donors of the ovaries were usually younger than the recipients. Five granulosa-cell tumors, 2 probable tumors of the same type, and 1 mixed tumor with granulosa and luteomatous cells were found among 21 castrated [male][male] with intrasplenic ovarian transplants. Four luteomas and 7 mixed tumors were found among 33 castrated [female][female] that showed no adhesion of the intrasplenic ovarian graft to the left uterine horn or adjacent peritoneum. Among 19 castrated [male][male] with vascularized adhesions of the ovarian transplant, 1 luteoma occurred in a mouse with irregular estrous cycles. Ovarian tumors did not occur in other sites of transplantation. The histopathologic appearance of the ovarian tumors is described; in general, these tumors resemble those described in the ovaries of x-rayed mice. The prostates and seminal vesicles of [male] castrates with intrasplenic ovarian transplants were atiophic. Only 3 of 11 [female] castrates having tumors of the intrasplenic ovarian transplants showed estrous vaginal smears. Pure granulosa-cell tumors and luteomas developed only in the castrated [male][male] and [female][female], respectively, bearing the intrasplenic ovarian transplants.
