Abstract
Cardiac output and various hemodynamic functions were observed in 17 patients with essential arterial hypertension before and after intravenous administration of Hydralazine. The drug produced a decrease in peripheral and pulmonary vascular resistance with a decrease in systemic arterial blood pressure and generally an increase in cardiac output. When severe hypotension occurred, as it did in 5 of this group, cardiac output remained unchanged or fell and in these 5 the average left ventricular work decreased. In the larger group left ventricular work varied unpredictably. Mild hyperventilation occurred after Hydralazine administration in 14 of 17 patients with a fall in arterial and mixed venous CO2 and a decrease in arteriovenous CO2 difference. This publication has 10 references indexed in Scilit:
