Abstract
The pressure dependence of the refractive index of argon has been measured in a diamond anvil cell up to 15 GPa. We describe in detail the novel technique used, which offers considerably higher accuracy than the others previously utilized. Our results on Ar agree with previous results at lower pressures and are compared with theoretical calculations at high pressure. Keywords
