Abstract
The field of membrane separations is discussed. The major membrane types and applications are outlined. The outlook with respect to research activities and commercial applications is surveyed. The advantages and disadvantages of this separation process are discussed. Certain applications where membranes may save energy and improve productivity are also discussed. Keywords
