Abstract
Transforming DNA, extracted prior to its replication from transformed bacteria is a hybrid, formed with the DNA of the recipient bacteria and which extends over a region of about one to two million daltons. The transforming DNA appears to be covalentyl linked to the DNA of the recipient bacteria. A number of hypotheses are considered regarding the origin of this hybrid. Keywords
