Demonstration of a Marked Bence-Jones Proteinemia.

Abstract
Electrophoretic analysis of the serum of a patient with multiple myeloma revealed a marked increase in the gamma-globulin area. This material was separated and the major portion was found to sediment with the velocity of a Bence-Jones protein. It was present in the serum at a level of 1.4% and comprised 16% of the total protein. The properties of this serum component corresponded with those of the major urinary protein. The patient in question evidenced a marked Bence-Jones proteinemia.
