Traumatic Shock

Abstract
Eck fistulas and lateral portal-caval anastomoses without ligation of the portal vein were produced in dogs subsequently subjected to exptl. hemorrhagic shock. Two conclusions were drawn. First, intestinal congestion and hemorrhage in the post-transfusion phase of irreversible hemorrhagic shock in the dog are the result of intrahepatic obstruction to portal flow. Second, diversion of blood from the systemic to the portal circulation does not account for development of irreversibility in exptl. hemorrhagic shock.
