The Insulin Requirement of Man after Total Pancreatectomy

Abstract
The insulin requirement of man after total pancreatectomy is by far smaller than clinical experience with the treatment of diabetes would suggest. Observations on 2 patients are reported who were controlled with less than 50 u. insulin daily at a carbohydrate intake of 150 to 200 gs. This is of importance for the post-operative management of patients after pancreatectomy. It may have significance also in any consideration of the etiology of human diabetes mellitus.
