alloPregnane-3α:20α-diol in the urine of pregnant women

Abstract
A simple method for isolation of allopregnane-3 [alpha] :20 [alpha]-diol from human urine was devised. Evidence is presented to suggest that about 70% of the allopregnanediol actually present can be isolated by this method. The ratio of pregnane-3 [alpha] :20 [alpha] -diol to allopregnane-3 [alpha] :20 [alpha]-diol in a mixed sample of the urine of pregnant women was about 30:1. allopregnane-3 [alpha] :20 [alpha]-diol is not present in the free state in human pregnancy urine. Preliminary evidence suggests that allopregnane-3 [alpha] :20 [alpha] -diol conjugate in crude "sodium pregnanediol glucuronidate" may be completely removed by repeated precipitation from aqueous soln. with 20 vol. of acetone.
