Charge Independence in the Reactionsp+d→π0+He3andp+d→π++H3at 450 Mev

Abstract

An experiment has been performed to measure the branching ratio in the production of ${\mathrm{He}}^3$ and ${\mathrm{H}}^3$ in $p-d$ collisions at 450 Mev at 140° in the c.m. system. The result is 2.13±0.15 which is in agreement with the prediction of a ratio 2 on the basis of charge independence alone. The production cross sections were found to be ${\left(\frac{d\sigma }{d\Omega }\right)}_{{\mathrm{He}}^3}=5.41\mathrm{}\pm 0.29$ μb/sr and ${\left(\frac{d\sigma }{d\Omega }\right)}_{{\mathrm{H}}^3}=11.55\mathrm{}\pm 0.49$ μb/sr.
