Traumatic Shock

Abstract
"Irreversible" hemorrhagic shock may be produced regularly in unanesthetized dogs given a single preliminary sedative dose of morphine or in entirely unmedicated dogs. Since VDM is not found in the absence of anesthesia or morphine, it is doubtful that it can account for the development of irreversibility to transfusion in exptl. hemorrhagic shock. No effect on arterial pressure or survival is observed to follow the intraven. injn. of VDM in amts. sufficient to produce plasma concns. considerably in excess of those observed in advanced hemorrhagic shock, in spite of the fact that the test dogs have been deprived of their mechanisms for inactivating or excreting the injected VDM.
