Fabrication of Two Tesla Magnet Using Bi-2212 Ag-Sheathed Tapes

Abstract
Pancake-type superconducting coils were fabricated using Ag-sheathed Bi-2212 tapes. The conventional powder-in-tube method was used where the metal composition of powders are Bi:Sr:Ca:Cu=2:2.3:0.85:2, different from the stoichiometric 2212 composition. Heat treatment was performed in the reduced oxygen partial pressure of 0.01 atm. The superconducting magnet assembled from pancake coils generated a field of 2.0 T at 4.2 K using the 1×10-13 Ω· m criterion. The J c was 3.9×104 A/cm2.
