High Critical Current Density in Silver-Sheathed Bi2Sr2Ca1Cu2AgyOx Tape

Abstract
Silver-sheathed Bi2Sr2Ca1Cu2Ag y O x (y=0 or 0.8) tapes were fabricated by the powder-in-tube method and a calcination procedure including a heat treatment in vacuum or in an atmosphere of reduced oxygen partial pressure. These tapes show critical current densities of 8.88×104 A/cm2 in the field of 1 T and 4.37×104 A/cm2 in the field of 12 T at 4.2 K, respectively. The addition of silver improves the critical current density. The sintering even in the atmosphere of inert gas was confirmed to also be effective for realizing high critical current density.
