The Degradation of Pyrimidines for Tracer Work. Bicarbonate as a Precursor for Ribonucleic Acid Pyrimidines.

Abstract
After C14-bicarbonate administration to rats, uracil (I) was isolated from the ribonucleic acid of the regenerating liver, degraded to urea which contained C atom 2 and oxalic acid which contained C atoms 5 and 6. Radioactivity counts established the fact that C from bicarbonate enters positions 2 and 4 in the pyrimidine ring in equal amount.
