Granulocyte Count, Resistance to Experimental Infection and Spleen Homogenate Treatment in Irradiated Mice

Abstract
Survival of sublethally irradiated mice challenged by a subcut injn. of Pseudomonas was associated with the leucocyte count as recovery from the damaging effects of radiation progressed, whether at a normal rate or accelerated by spleen homogenate. An association of the same magnitude was shown among mice of each treatment group (but with naturally varying counts). This association was shown to depend upon granulo-cyte count, with no measurable lymphocyte contribution.
