(α,Li6) Reaction onC12,N14,Al27, and Ni at 42 MeV

Abstract
Angular distributions for the N14(α, Li6)C12 and C12(α, Li6)B10 reactions have been measured at a bombarding energy of 42 MeV. Assuming that these reactions proceed through the pickup of a deuteron cluster and that the plane-wave Born approximation is applicable, it is found that the reduced width for a deuteron cluster in the ground state of N14 is five times larger than that for the C12 ground state. Distorted-wave Born approximation calculations did not agree with experiment. The (α, Li6) reaction was also observed with aluminum and nickel targets. Though the (α, Li7) reaction contaminated the spectra and the experimental resolution was insufficient to separate discrete final states, it is clear that the (α, Li6)-reaction cross sections for aluminum and nickel were smaller than that for nitrogen by at least a factor of 50 and 1000, respectively.
