Some Characteristics of an Avian Arthritis Viral Agent

Abstract
The virus agent (VA) (WVU 1695) was not sensitive to chlortetracycline, erythromycin, or tylosin. It withstood boiling for 10-12 sec, 60[degree]C for 8-10 hr. 37[degree]C for 16 wks., and -63[degree]C for over 4 yrs. The VA was resistant to 20% ether and 0.5% chloroform. Millipore filtration indicated a particle size between 0.1 and 0.22 [mu]. Cytoplasmic inclusion bodies were present in the chorioallantoic membrane of infected chicken embryos. The above characteristics suggest an agent that is closely related to the pox group.
