Abstract
Insulin has 2 separate actions on carbo-hydrate metabolism in the depancreatized dog; the 1st or "basal" action diminishes new formation of glucose, the 2d produces increased removal of glucose from the blood stream to be disposed of by oxidation and storage. The intensity of this action is measured quantitatively by determining the rate at which glucose must be injected intraven. to balance the removal rate. Data are presented to illustrate the manner in which the activity changes after an intraven. dose of insulin. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
