Abstract
The theory of the generation and amplification of optical phonons in semiconductors via free carriers in the presence of laser radiation is extended to take into account quantizing magnetic fields. It is found that for the laser beam polarized perpendicular to the magnetic field direction, the optical-phonon system may reach instability as the cyclotron frequency of the free carriers approaches the laser frequency. Keywords
