Electron impact excitation of atomic hydrogen at 35 and 54.4 eV

Abstract
The results of close-coupling calculations of electron scattering by atomic hydrogen are presented in four models which use: (a) the n=1, 2, 3 states, (b) the n=1, 2, 3, 4 states, (c) the n=1, 2, 3, 4 states with localised exchange operators, and (d) the pseudo-state basis of Morgan (1982). The six-state close-coupling results of van de Ree (1982) are claimed to be in error. The results are compared with the first Born approximation (FBA) and other simple approximations, as well as (where possible) with experiment.
