Magnetostriction in Ferromagnetic CdCr2Se4

Abstract
The magnetostriction constants λ100 and λ111 of CdCr2Se4 have been measured using a ferromagnetic resonance technique. At 4.2°K the results are: λ100 = +2.6×10−6 and λ111 = −28×10−6. The dominant λ111 is of single‐ion origin, and its magnetization dependence is described very well by the single‐ion theory of Callen and Callen. A ferromagnetic resonance linewidth of 15 Oe and anisotropy constant K1 of 3.5×103 erg/cc have been determined at 4.2°K. The Curie temperature, determined by an initial permeability method, was 129°±2°K.
