Determination of the S-Wave ππ Phase Shifts in the ϱ Region from 4.16−GeVc π−p Interactions

Abstract

The results of a calculation of the $T=0\mathrm{}$ and $T=2\mathrm{}$ $S$-wave $\pi \pi$ elastic scattering phase shifts in the $\rho$ region are presented. Two solutions are found for both. One set for ${{\delta }_0}^0$ does not pass through 90°. The physically acceptable solution for the ${{\delta }_0}^2$ phase shift is found to be small ($\left|{{\delta }_0}^2\right|<\mathrm{}{20}^{\circ }$). The absorption corrections are essential for the determination of ${{\delta }_0}^0$.
