Abstract
Reduction of nitrates and nitrites by soil bacteria was effected most rapidly if the C/N ratio was low. Free N was formed from oxidized N when the pH did not fall below 6.5. Free N was not formed from organic compounds by direct bacterial action, but by the action of free nitrous acid on ammo-compounds; both the latter substances may be produced by bacteria. This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
