EFFECTS OF HORMONES ON THE COENZYME A CONCENTRATION IN RAT LIVER1

Abstract

Hypophysectomy decreased the coenzyme A concentration in the liver of adult female rats. L-Thyroxine, cortisone acetate, and growth hormone, as well as injections of Calcium pantothenate, increased the coenzyme A concentration in the livers of the operated animals. When several combinations of the hormones were injected concurrently no definite synergistic effect was observed. In most instances the hormonal effects were additive in elevating the coenzyme A concentration, but the level was not restored to normal. Growth hormone injected into intact rats decreased the coenzyme A concentration. Fasting did not affect the coenzyme A level in the normal and hypophysectomized animals.
