Proton Bremsstrahlung

Abstract
The differential cross section for the production of gamma rays from the bremsstrahlung of protons of 30- to 140-Mev kinetic energy in the center-of-mass system is calculated. An energy-dependent complex square well is used to represent the nuclear interaction. The complexity of the potential enhances gamma-ray production. Furthermore, the theory predicts a low intensity for high-energy gamma rays. It is also found that the continuous spectrum of radiation is closed between very low-frequency and high-energy gamma rays of energy just below the incident proton kinetic energy. By using the experimental information, a qualitative result about the energy dependence of the imaginary part of the potential is obtained in comparable form with those used by other people.
