Abstract
Three temporary dramatic remissions were induced in 2 patients with classic disseminated lupus erythematosus following the injn. of 150 mg. ACTH intramusc in 6 divided doses daily for 5 days. It is probable that the drug inhibits the peripheral manifestations of the disease without affecting the underlying disease mechanism since a clinical relapse usually occurs promptly after cessation of hormone treatment. As there are none of the usual signs or symptoms of adrenal insufficiency in disseminated lupus erythematosus, it is unlikely that ACTH acts as substitution therapy for a deficiency. Keywords
