Abstract
The index of refraction and the equation of state (EOS) of hydrogen have been measured to high pressures, leading to a determination of the pressure dependence of the polarizability to greater than 1 mbar. A simple method for measuring the index allows for straightforward extension of both the index and EOS measurements to the highest pressures achievable in a diamond-anvil cell. Keywords
