Abstract
In field trials carried out in n. Nigeria, melarsen proved to be the best drug tried. Melarsen oxide and Mel B were unsuitable for large-scale use because of their side effects. Pentamidine and tryparsamide were both valuable in the treatment of early cases; used together they are more useful than are antrypol-tryparsamide mixtures, and should replace the latter in general field use. Most of the patients were followed for a period of 2 years to determine the efficacy of the treatments.
