Abstract
Manifestations of myotonic muscular dystrophy other than muscular weakness, wasting, and myotonia often include frontal baldness, lenticular opacities, and gonadal atrophy. In addition, osseous,1 endocrine,2 cardiopulmonary,3,4,5 metabolic,6 and gastrointestinal 7,8 changes have been reported. Most of the reports on myotonic muscular dystrophy are concerned with the specific area of interest of the observer and often describe only the findings in one organ system so that it is difficult to determine the frequency of these various systemic disturbances. The present study reports the multiple system manifestations observed in 35 patients with myotonic muscular dystrophy. Case Material Thirty-five patients, 28 males and 7 females, with myotonic muscular dystrophy were seen, by at least one of us, at the University of Oklahoma Medical Center between 1954 and 1962. All of the patients but one were residents of Oklahoma. Eight were first seen at the Veterans Administration Hospital. None ofKeywords
