Abstract
A supplement to a basal diet with synthetic vits. was sought which should provide the hitherto unidentified growth factors of the vit. B complex but without panto-thenic acid. In acid and alkaline hydrolysates of liver extracts the pantothenic acid was not destroyed completely, but wheat germ, fed at a level of 0.5 g./day, approx ful-filled the conditions. From data on rats receiving a basal diet, synthetic B vits. and wheat germ, a satisfactory curve was constructed relating growth to dosage of pantothenic acid over a range of 0-100 [mu]g. daily.
