Abstract
Sixteen dogs were prepared with Maydl fistulas of jejunum, Heidenhain pouches, and cannula gastrostomies. Acid was infused into jejunum, recording motility from stomach and stomach pouch. Vagotomy produced slight lengthening of latent period and minor shortening of inhibitory period. Total thoracolumbar sympathectomy had no effect. Celiac ganglionectomy combining chemical destruction with dissection abolished the inhibitory effect on the stomach of acid in jejunum. Apparently, the enterogastric reflex is transmitted by the postganglionic sympathetics.[long dash] Author. Keywords
