Anti-Inflammatory Drugs and Gastric Mucus

Abstract
The gastric mucus in the rat was studied by a histochemical technique after administration of calcium acetylsalicylate, oxiphenbutazone, and indomethacin. All these substances were found to reduce the mucus layer in the stomach. Salicylate appeared to cause the greatest reduction, and the results indicate that the effect on the gastric mucosa is partly locally and partly generally induced.
