PHARMACOLOGY OF ISONICOTINIC ACID HYDRAZIDE (NYDRAZID)

Abstract
Acute, subacute, and chronic toxicity studies with isonicotinic acid hydrazide (Nydrazid) are reported. Nydrazid is rapidly absorbed after oral admn. to mice and dogs. Acute and chronic doses in dogs disappeared from circulating plasma after approx. 16 hrs. Excitement and convulsions are signs of acute toxicity in mice and dogs. Subacute toxicity in rats is evidenced by anorexia, loss in body wt., convulsions, and slight hepatic damage. Chronic toxic signs are anorexia, ataxia, convulsions, fatty degeneration of liver, and jaundice. These symptoms disappear upon cessation of drug admn.
