Abstract

Presentation of Case First admission. A sixty-nine-year-old man was admitted to the hospital because of jaundice and substernal pain.Except for pulmonary emphysema the patient had been well until six months previously, when he began to experience substernal burning pain. For forty years he had been drinking 2 to 4 glasses of whiskey every evening. During the two weeks before entry he noticed that the stools were light in color and frothy and that the urine was darker than usual.
