Abstract
The reliability of steroid determinations which utilize light absorption measurements of colored complexes or derivatives are governed by the degree of purification and specificity of color reaction. Allen used a correction formula which was applicable in cases where light absorption of contaminating sub stances changed linearly with the wavelength. The author devised a method for the detection of errors arising from a non linear background for the use of the Allen correction in absorptiometric determinations. The greatest errors were present when the background contribution was high or the specific color measured was very weak.
