STEM RUST RESISTANCE IN OATS. I. THE INHERITANCE OF RESISTANCE TO RACE 6AF IN SIX VARIETIES OF OATS

Abstract
The resistance of the oat varieties C. I. 4529, C. I. 5844, C. I. 6558, C. I. 6829 and C. I. 6849 to races 6F and 6AF of oat stem rust was conferred by a new recessive gene for resistance, designated as gene H. Gene H was inherited independently of gene A in Exeter and gene B in Rodney, but it was either closely linked in repulsion, or allelic to gene E in crosses involving Jostrain. In addition to gene H, C. I. 6849 possesses gene D, and C. I. 6829 is heterogeneous for gene D.
