Abstract
In accordance with other Hymenoptera, the male-female chromosomeal relationship has been found to be haplo-diploid, viz. 10/20, in the formicid ant, Camponotus compressus. There being only a haploid set of chromosomes in the male, the meiosis I is abortive: the only evidence of this ‘division’ is the intra-nuclear appearance of erstwhile metaphase chromosomes. Unlike the honey-bee, the male meiosis II produces two instead of one functional spermatids.
