Abstract
After rapid injn. (superior vena cava) of red cells tagged with radioactive Fe in plasma dyed with Evans Blue, the entire left ventricular output (of anesthetized dogs) was collected in a series of measured and mechanically timed samples which were analyzed for dye and for radioactivity. Recovery of neither cells nor dye was complete, but the simultaneous concn. curves for dye and cells were practically identical, with the cell curve slightly in the lead. This indicates a slightly higher velocity of the cells in some part of the lesser circulation but no preferential retention of the dye in the vessels or on their walls. Alleged high cardiac outputs obtained by the injn. method must therefore not be ascribed to such loss of dye. The photoelectric spectrophotometry of T-1824 in plasma is discussed, and the assembling and testing of an -instrument for this purpose are described. Keywords
