Abstract
A simple, rapid and reliable gas-liquid chromatographic method using flame-ionization detection for quantitatively measuring propionic and higher volatile fatty acids in aqueous solution has been developed. The procedure is reliable at concentrations of 10 mg/1 and utilizes direct-aqueous injection without preliminary drying, distillation, extraction or esterification. The key feature is a Small-diameter, 1/8-inch column employing a newly developed, polyester-type free fatty acid phase, FFAP, as the substrate.
