Abstract
-Quantitative measurements of the H2O2 decomposed in a definite period by representatives of the genus Propionibacterium showed striking variations in catalase content of cultures. The general characterization of the propionic-acid bacteria as vigorous producers of catalase should be modified and less emphasis placed on this property as a diagnostic test. Succinic acid was not utilized by any of the cultures when present as sole source of C. With some strains, volatile acids may be produced from succinates in presence of a fermentable carbohydrate, such as glucose. This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
