Abstract
Renal efficiency was measured by urea clearance and conc. tests on 19 [male][male] and 11 [female][female] between 14 and 48 having malignant hypertension, 24 of whom are now dead. The disease was not hereditary in these cases. Urea clearance was above 55% of normal in 60% of the patients. Ability to concentrate urine was reduced in 50% and sharply reduced in 29% more. Hb was normal in 50% and below normal in 36%. Morbid changes in composition of urine were slight. Enlargement of heart was common and electrocardiographic changes were marked. Calcification oi pineal gland was common. Extensive morbid changes in the ocular fundi were found in practically all. Both systolic and diastolic blood pressures were high.
