Lipid Mobilizer (LM) from Posterior Pituitary of Hogs.

Abstract
A sterile and pyrogen-free dialysate of a saline extract of lyophilized hog posterior pituitary lobes (LM) was prepared. Injection of 1 mg LM/ kg intravenously into fasted, sensitized, intact rats, hypophysectomized rats, adrenalectomized rats, mice, guinea pigs, rabbits and dogs induced at least a 2 fold increase in plasma levels of total cholesterol, fatty acids and lipids. Neither pitressin, pitocin nor hog anterior pituitary extracts similarly administered had LM activity. LM appears to be a hitherto undescribed hormone either elaborated or stored in the posterior pituitary.
