Abstract
In anesthetized dogs under constant Urecholine and secretin stimulation the output of amylase in the pancreatic juice showed no reduction within 6-9 hrs. Intraven. admn. of 0.5 g./kg. of synthetic DL-ethionine caused a fall in amylase output within the 1st half hr. of injn. which continued for 2-3 hrs. until it finally leveled off. Four hours after the injn. of ethionine, the subsequent admn. of DL-methionine did not reverse the depressed enzyme output. The depressive effect of DL-ethionine was prevented either by simultaneous or by previous admn. of an equivalent dose of DL-methionine.
