Abstract
The effects of laser irradiation on the cohesion of diamondlike solids are investigated. It is shown that the melting temperature decreases under laser irradiation, due to the increase of the vibrational energy induced by bond‐charge effects and of the electronic contribution to the total energy of the solid. Keywords
