Action of Sodium Salicylate on Hyaluronidase

Abstract
Na salicylate inhibited the in vivo action of hyaluronidase as measured by the spreading effect in the skin of albino rabbits. In vitro experiments showed inhibition of testicular hyaluronidase in concs. down to 0.013 [image] and perferingens hyaluronidase down to 0.025 [image]. The concs. were considerably above those obtained in vivo (0.001 [image][long dash]0.005 [image]). On the basis of these observations, the direct inhibition of hyaluronidase by Na salicylate seemed unlikely, but could be ruled out in view of the impurity of prepns. used, and the known differences in behavior of biologically active substances in vitro and in vivo.
