Abstract
An empirical self-consistent method for studying the tunnelling density of states of normal-metal-superconductor double layers is described. The role of the intermetallic boundary in controlling spatial variation of the order parameter in inhomogeneous media is elucidated. It is suggested that under certain conditions, tunnelling data taken from such systems may be used to extract quantitative information. Keywords
