Phonon spectra of quartz isomorphs

Abstract

Inelastic light scattering has been used to probe the phonon behavior in AlAs${\mathrm{O}}_4$, GaAs${\mathrm{O}}_4$, GaP${\mathrm{O}}_4$, and BP${\mathrm{O}}_4$. The results are compared with earlier studies of isomorphic AlP${\mathrm{O}}_4$, Si${\mathrm{O}}_2$, and Ge${\mathrm{O}}_2$. A previous ambiguity regarding symmetry assignments for phonons in Ge${\mathrm{O}}_2$ is resolved. Linewidths and frequencies are measured up to 1300°K.
