MAGNESIUM METABOLISM IN HEALTH AND DISEASE. III. IN EXOPHTHALMIC GOITER, BASOPHILIC ADENOMA, ADDISON'S DISEASE AND STEATORRHEA

Abstract
The Ca and Mg metabolism was studied in these 4 diseases which affect inorganic salt metabolism. The Mg excretion was found to be slightly lower than normal in 2 cases of exophthalmic goiter, in a case of steatorrhea with tetany due to poor Ca absorption, and in a case of Addison''s disease with and without therapy. In a case of Cushing''s syndrome, the Mg metabolism was normal and remained so, even after X-ray treatments to the pituitary gland reduced the Ca elimination. Thus, Ca and Mg behaved quite independently in the body.
