Quark-Model Sum Rules for Hyperon-Nucleon Total Cross Sections

Abstract
Predictions of hyperon-nucleon total cross sections are made based upon quark-model additivity sum rules. Using various kinematic conditions for performing the quark decomposition, large qualitative differences result in the Σp total cross section predicted at high energies. Data taken in proposed hyperon-beam experiments should be able to differentiate between predictions of the various kinematic schemes. Also, Serpukhov data are used to confront old quark-model sum rules for conventional beams; results are consistent with additivity sum rules taken with the various hadron systems compared at fixed relative velocity.
