Abstract
A method is described for the partial purification of parathyroid hormone by means of H Cl extraction, acetone fractionation, ultrafiltration and displacement chromatography on ion-exchange resin (Dowex 50). The procedure yields material of potency 75-100 units/mg dry weight (500-700 units/mg of N) in quantities of 90-100 mg/600 g of fresh bovine glands. This material is heterogeneous on electrophoresis at pH 2.5. Evidence is presented which suggests that the active material obtained by means of acetic acid and H Cl extraction respectively have different chemical properties.
